Dr. Amber Teigen serves as the Associate Program Director and Assistant Professor in the College of Health Professions Physician Assistant Program. She has been a certified Physician Assistant for 15 years with experience in orthopedics and interventional radiology. She is committed to improving the health and well-being of others, particularly those in underserved, rural communities, as she grew up in a rural community.
Her passion for mindfulness and meditation began through her personal experiences with the practices as a means of stress management. The positive growth and transformation these practices nurtured sparked a desire to share mindfulness with others. She earned her certification as a Koru Mindfulness instructor and is on the path to becoming a certified Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) teacher. She also has some training in Mindful Schools instruction, which focuses on teaching mindfulness to school-age children (K-12). She teaches Lifestyle Medicine in the PA program and within the UAMS Interprofessional Education and plans to earn her board certification in Lifestyle Medicine this year. Her interest in lifestyle medicine and her mindfulness practice has enriched and deepened other activities she enjoys, such as spending time with her husband and 2 kids, hiking, playing pickleball and spike ball, visiting National Parks, other outdoor activities, and reading.
