KORU Mindfulness

Virtual Basic KORU Mindfulness Course

The UAMS Mindfulness Program is pleased to offer a donation-based virtual Basic KORU Mindfulness Course to the public.

This course will teach Mindfulness skills to help participants fully experience life moment-to-moment with kindness and without judgment. It will help participants learn to reduce stress and increase self-compassion while finding balance in life.

KORU Mindfulness is a Mindfulness program that is popular and widely used on many college campuses in the U.S. It was developed by Dr. Holly Rogers, a psychiatrist from the Duke University Student Counseling Center, and her colleagues. KORU Mindfulness is now an intendent organization with hundreds of teachers worldwide. Although this course was developed for “emerging adults”, it is beneficial for all age groups.

Basic KORU Mindfulness

Basic KORU Mindfulness meets online once a week for four weeks for 75-minute sessions. The class size is between 5 -15 students. Participants are taught Mindfulness skills and also engage in group discussions each week.

Skills taught include:

  • Breath Meditation
  • Belly Breathing
  • Dynamic Breathing
  • Body Scan
  • Walking Meditation
  • Gatha Meditation
  • Guided Imagery
  • Labeling of Thoughts
  • Eating Meditation
  • Labeling of Feelings

The required text for this course is, “The Mindful Twenty-Something,” by Holly Rogers, M.D., which will be provided free to registered participants.

Participants are expected to practice Mindfulness meditation for at least 10 minutes a day. They will have access to the KORU Mindfulness app, which is free to registered participants. The app includes recordings of guided meditations, ways to log meditations, and allows participants to communicate with the instructor. Participants will continue to have access to the app after the course is completed.

Fees

This is a donation-based course. A donation is not required, but it is highly encouraged. It is your donations that allow us to continue to honor our mission to provide mindfulness tools to anyone with an expressed interest.

As a thank you for your donation, you will receive a copy of the course text book, “The Mindful Twenty-Something” by Holly Rogers, M.D., all other participants will be given links to purchase from Amazon or locally from Wordsworth Bookstore.
